Oakland's Waterfront Ballpark Proposal Criticized, Lacks Affordable Housing

The Oakland Waterfront Ballpark may be in jeopardy for the lack of affordable housing in the plan's proposal.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle:

City law requires developers to build a certain number of affordable housing units in housing projects. Developers can opt out of building the housing if they pay an impact fee.

Oakland A's president, Dave Kaval, reportedly suggested the city use their own funding "any way it wants," after being criticized for not including affordable housing in the initial plan. However, officials were not happy with this response.

The proposed Howard Terminal project reportedly includes a ballpark for the Oakland A's and 3,000 residential units. This plan will generate jobs and revenue for the city.
