Today, we hosted an honest, frank discussion with San Francisco Chief of Police, Bill Scott. We talked about the evolution of law enforcement and steps SFPD has taken to ensure public safety and equal treatment for all.
Chief Scott also went into detail on this thoughts about the #DefundThePolice movement, saying that he agrees and believes that some funds should be reallocated to serve mental health and education as well as helping to better our African-American communities. One major change that's already been taken into action is that the SFPD announced (on June 11th) that they'll no longer be responding to non-criminal calls, but instead letting mental health and social work professionals handle.
Some of the new policies being put into place now, like a ban on chokeholds, have already been instituted in the San Francisco Police Department since 2016 or earlier. It's great to know that our city and leadership are at the forefront of change and are trying to protect & serve our community in a just manner.
Big salute to SFPD Chief Bill Scott for his time and for shedding light on a topic that's on ALL of our minds right now.
