The 'Portsmouth Ohio Official' Facebook account fooled EVERYONE after a post went viral this week. Their post, posed as a fugitive alert, claimed that they were looking for a man who fooled three different local churches into believing that he was Ed Sheeran. According to the post, this man performed in the churches for $35 and a sandwich. The post says in part:
"The fugitive task force is looking for Ronnie Williams Jr. of Sciotoville for fraud. He has convinced 3 local churches that he is Ed Sheeran and even went as far as performing The Shape Of You in front of Christ Community Church last Sunday. When the pastor was asked why he believed the real Ed Sheeran would perform for 35 dollars and a sandwich, he said he just assumed he had fell on tough times."
Looks legit and had us like WTF for a hot minute here for sure! After diving in more and checking out their other posts, this was a total hoax and the person running the account is having one hell of a time laughing at all the news sources who ran with this story as if it was real. Not gonna lie, we almost did too. Had we done it, our reports would have looked like these outlets:
