The Bay Area is rallying to raise funds for the families of the three men who drowned in the Sacramento Delta over Fourth of July weekend while attempting to save one of their nephews.
The brothers were known as the "three amigos."
The heros lived in Oakland and frequently spent time together, sometimes worked together, and unfortunately drowned together. Now, their family is trying to raise enough money to send the bodies of the three back to Guatemala. It will cost roughly $15,000 each to send the men back to Guatemala to be buried.
"It’s very important to the family, and their religion, come back in Guatemala," said Wendy Rivas.
The three men, Edwin Rivas, Danilo Gutierrez, and Edwin Perez, drowned in the Sacramento Delta while there on a fishing trip. They were among several men who dove into the river to save their nephew, who was 8 years old.
A GOFUNDME campaign has been started with a $45,000 dollar target.
