Rap A Lot music mogul J. Prince is calling on mainstream artist like Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd and more to boycott The Grammy's after they allegedly tried to "cancel" Kanye West by cancelling his scheduled performance at the show. Allegedly, The Grammy's did so because of Kanye's recent behavior on social media.
J. Prince points out The Grammy's do not deserve nor should they hold so much power over artist. He explains The Grammy's have a "slave master mentality" as they have been blasted previously for "discriminating against Drake, The Weeknd, and Nicki Minaj" over the years.
J. Prince has an interesting solution as he called on all the artist he named plus everyone else for the culture, to come together to do a live show at the same time the Grammy's broadcast. Thus, Prince is proposing to draw viewers away from the Grammys to the people who "create the culture" The Grammy's thrive on. Check it out in his own words below.
If J. Prince is able to get all the artist he named to perform a live broadcast at the same time of the Grammy's, that would be LEGENDARY. There's no doubt fans would rather watch Hip Hop & R&B's biggest artist perform than The Grammy Awards. It seems Nicki Minaj may be down for the cause as she commented "Respect" on his call to action.
Recall, The Weeknd blasted the Grammys as "corrupt" after he was nominated for multiple awards yet won none following his refusal to not perform at Super Bowl, one week before The Grammy Awards he was also scheduled to perform at. The Weeknd vowed to never participate in the show ever again after the snub.
Nicki Minaj also has a checkered history with the Grammys as she has never won a single Grammy. Although Nicki Minaj is considered the solo female on the Mount Rushmore of Hip Hop MC's with multiple platinum hits and albums, somehow Nicki Minaj has 10 nominations yet zero wins.
Kanye West, even with 21 Grammy wins, has always had an on and off again relationship with the Grammy's. Kanye notoriously urinated on the hardware in 2020 letting them know once again how he felt about the awards. In 2017, Kanye West vowed to skip the Grammy Awards, even though he was up for eight awards, in solidarity with Frank Ocean after both of their albums, Blonde and Endless, were not nominated for any awards.
Well have to wait and see if J. Prince is able to bring these artist together to make a statement. It would be LEGENDARY!
