Phylicia Rashad has issued an apology for her since-deleted tweet that supported Bill Cosby’s release from prison and overturned his sexual assault conviction.
Rashad was met with support from singer Stephanie Mills, after calls for Rashad to be fired as the dean of the College of Fine Arts came from Howard University students and alumni.
In Rashad’s apology addressed to Howard students and parents she wrote,
“My remarks were in no way directed towards survivors of sexual assault. I vehemently oppose sexual violence, find no excuse for such behavior, and I know that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy toward interpersonal violence.”
Phylicia Rashad plans to attend training that will reinforce Howard University’s protocols and conduct requirements and says she will become, “a stronger ally to sexual abuse victims,”.
