'Protect Him at All Cost' Tyler Perry Plans to Buy Majority Stake of BET

Fans all over are excited to hear that Tyler Perry is planning to buy the majority stake in BET. At the moment, the CBS Entertainment Group unit of Paramount Global owns BET. The Hollywood Reporter was first to announce that CBS was interested in selling a majority of the network. Originally started in 1980, by Robert Johnson, BET played music videos as a way to counter MTV, which didn't play Black artist at the time. Tyler Perry has written, produced, directed, and starred in several hit shows and movies grossing more than $600 million globally. If Perry buys the BET assets, it could vault his Atlanta-based film and television production empire into a new world of content distribution, giving Perry a direct line into millions of U.S. households. But Tyler Perry isn't the only one in the running though, media mogul and producer Byron Allen is also interested in buying BET.
