Two South Bay hospitals, Good Samaritan Hospital and Regional Medical Center, have apologized after families accused them of mishandling the bodies of their loved ones.
NBC Bay Area reported two separate incidents. One woman claimed that Good Samaritan misplaced her mother's body and found it days later, discovering it was stacked with another body in the hospital's storage room. Another woman's pregnancy had ended at six months and the same hospital reportedly "threw out the body" by mistake.
In addition, investigators found that the Regional Medical Center in San Jose had also failed to respectfully handle bodies by having the remains of two people held for an excessive amount of time. One body was held for 108 days and another 298 days, according to NBC Bay Area.
On August 26th, 2021, both hospitals apologized in a statement, saying:
"Good Samaritan Hospital and Regional Medical Center have the deepest respect for human remains. We are committed to following detailed policies concerning their handling. In these cases, we simply did not live up to our commitment. We can and should have done better."
