Absolutely insane. So glad this woman caught this man on video and called the cops!
Mission police arrested a man Thursday morning after a video showing him dragging a dog behind a motorized scooter surfaced, according to Lt. Jody Tittle with the Mission Police Department.
The incident happened at the 3000 block of Sierra Court at about 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
Melissa Torrez was leaving her home when she spotted her neighbor committing what she says was an act of animal cruelty.
"I turn around. I see him dragging his dog from the middle of street all the way to second drive way. I'm out of my car yelling at him, asking him 'what are you doing? What's wrong with you?' And he just keeps going telling me to mind my own business, it's his dog he can do whatever he wants,” said Torrez.
Torrez said the man dragged the German Shepherd behind him for about two blocks, according to Tittle.
Further investigation led officers to a suspect identified as 59-year-old Mario Cardona, according to Tittle.
Mission police said they received hundreds of calls from concerned residents which prompted their quick action.
Cardona was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. A judge set his bond at $10,000.
Tittle said that according to Penal Code 42.092, "under the section (b) (5) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly: transports an animal in a cruel manner. A cruel manner includes a manner that causes or permits unjustified or unwarranted pain or suffering."
G2, the female German Shepherd remains in Animal Control's custody and is healthy and doing well.
