The Oakland Police Department was seriously considering the use of armed, lethal robots on the force.
However, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, officials have decided against it after receiving "condemnation from human rights organizations opposed to militarized police departments." Though many opposed the use of robots, including many members of the City Council, the department did not offer an official reason as to why they made their decision.
