Oakland City leaders ask CA to eliminate OUSD's debit to keep schools open

Students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members gathered Friday morning to protest the closures that are being discussed for 8 East Bay OUSD schools. Council members are meeting to decide the fate of the schools on the chopping block on Monday Feb 8th.

Oakland city leaders are asking Gov. Newsom along with State Legislature to ELIMINATE OUSD's debit in order to prevent school closures. Oakland Vice Mayor Rebecca Kaplan is also asking for state law to be revised so that schools are not penalized when children are sick.

We will see if their request is being considered over the weekend and leading into the final meeting and decision day of this coming Monday. Let's put up positive prayers for our students and faculty who will be the ones who really suffer from closures.
