Oooooop!!! One Oakland teacher has upset the community with her opinions!!

Bethany Meyer, a special education teacher in Oakland had some choice words directed at WHITE PARENTS as she stated in her Twitter post. Apparently she feels that white parents are showing a surprising concern for their children's mental health when she feels they have been pushing them to complete "asynchronous" work and feeding into their feelings of "entitlement".

Bethany was met with support and anger for her post that centered around the reopening of schools in Alameda County.

OUSD responded primarily to the concern of parents who have been dealing with distance learning and all the complications that have come along with the process. Stating that they were looking forward to getting teachers vaccinated and also for the county to move into the RED tier to support a safer return for educators and students alike.

I don't think Bethany should have targeted anyone in her post but as a parent I am concerned about my daughter's mental health and the lack of social interaction that the school campus provides. We are in Alameda County so let's hope for everyone there is a safe plan for return to in-person class coming soon!
