California Releasing Inmates To Reduce Crowding Starting July 1

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced they will be allowing more inmates to be released due to COVID-19. In order to reduce overcrowding, prisoners with six months or less to serve will be let go. Prisoners serving time for domestic violence, sex offenders, or a violent or serious crime will not be allowed to get released.

The releases will start on July 1. Seventeen people incarcerated in California have died from the coronavirus.
