It's been over a year since Ahmaud Arbery was inhumanely shot to death on a public street. He like most people on the daily was out bettering his health with a jog. As he put foot to the pavement through a residential area, he was spotted by Travis McMichael, his pops, Gregory McMichael and William Bryan. They decided to jump in their trucks to stalk and harass Ahmaud for being who they thought was the suspect in recent robberies in the neighborhood, simply because he was a black man. In addition to following him in their trucks, they proceeded to block his jogging route which then turned into a physical confrontation where Ahmaud was met with loaded weapons. The men basically chased him down and threatened him, and in an effort to defend himself Ahmaud fought back and was then shot to death. More than a year after this tragic evening the Department of Justice announced that federal hate crime charges against these men have come down -each of the men was charged with one count of interference with Ahmaud Arbery's right to use a public street because of his race, as well as one count of attempted kidnapping. Travis and Gregory McMichael, father and son, were each also charged with one count of using, carrying and brandishing a firearm, while Travis was charged for shooting Ahmaud, This is another step towards accountability and erasing the hate that is plaguing our country. These aren't the only charges against these men as they are also facing murder charges through the state. Prayers up to Ahmaud Arbery's family as they continue to grieve and process all of this- including having to re-live that evening through video footage captured once the trials are underway.
