This Black History Month Is All About Health and Wellness

Black History Month is celebrated in many ways. The way one family celebrates may be slightly different than another, but overall in February during Black History Month it's a time to celebrate the accomplishments of black people, learn how culture continues to impact the world and motivate the youth to understand where they came from so they can feel encouraged to create their own path towards success. BHM started as a week celebration, specifically in February around Abraham Lincoln + Frederick Douglass' birthdays. By the 60's with the help of the Civil Rights Movement - this week became a month in which celebrations surrounding Black identity were happening across college campuses. Since the 70's each Black History Month has been given a theme - this year it's Health and Wellness. As we are going towards year 3 of living with Covid, health and wellness is beyond important. With Health and Wellness in mind, t's a time to honor professionals who are making innovations in the medical field, as well as tap in with you and do a check on your mental, physical and emotional. We're just one week in - so you've still got time to join in the celebration.
