Former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman, Glenn Foster Jr. 31, has died while in custody in Alabama after being arrested Sunday afternoon.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office confirmed Foster's death Monday.

Coroner Chad Harless said his office is in possession of Foster’s body and an autopsy is pending. Harless said he could not comment further on precisely when and where Foster died.

Foster died in custody on Monday following a high-speed police chase that resulted in a crash. After being arrested Foster was allegedly involved in a jail fight with another detainee that drew two guards into the fray. Officials also claim that despite a desperate effort to get Foster medical help, he declined according to interviews with authorities and his relatives.

Foster was balancing a decade-old bipolar diagnosis. He had a career in the NFL playing for the New Orleans Saints and was a business owner in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. His death came two days after police in Reform, Alabama, arrested him and turned him over to the custody of a local sheriff’s office.
