An Oakland City Councilmember is calling for more police academies due to an increase in crime.
Councilmember Sheng Thao had originally voted against more police academies earlier this year, but has since changed her mind due to the increase in violent crimes and decrease in officers on the police force, according to NBC Bay Area.
Many activists who considered Thao an ally for the "defund police" movement are now criticizing and questioning where her support lies.
