The Anti-Asian Hate Bill PASSED- But What Does It Mean?

Sadly, we've all become too familiar with hate crimes and the increase in them directed towards Asians has seen an absurd increase since the Pandemic began. In an effort to validate these experiences and acknowledge these acts as crimes, The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act aims to decrease Asian Hate while holding offenders accountable. The new bill was passed by the Senate and has to pass through the House, which leaves a signature by President Biden as the final step. Once fully in place, it would mean there would be heightened resources that will allow people to easily report a hate crime online in various languages as well as specific roles within the Justice Department that would expedite and address these crimes. This historical bill passed almost unanimously, with just one senator opposing it. SMH at that one lone voter that went against this bill that aims to stop hate and hold people accountable.
