These Super Moms Made the List for 'Who Did It First'

Let the celebration of women making moves, making history and shattering glass ceilings continue with this list of amazing women who did it first and just so happen to be MOMs! The accomplishments they were able to achieve give them super mom status, because everyone knows just being a parent is a WHOLE JOB and some in itself!

This list of amazing women is filled with ladies who didn't take no for an answer, kept going despite being marginalized, overlooked or just wrongly pushed to the side. If you're looking for some boss ladies to thank for inventions you use to this day, freedoms you take for granted or simply need some inspiration to keep chasing your goals- start here with this list of AMAZING WOMEN who just so happen to be MOMs too!

  • First Lady Michelle Obama-A lawyer, a writer, a mother of two-oh and let's not forget the first ever Black First Lady who has become an advocate for health families, higher education and international girls education.
  • Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson -In 1973 she became the first black woman to graduate from MIT with her PhD. Her work is credited for paving the way for technology used in caller ID, call waiting, touch tone telephones and MORE!
  • Aretha Franklin-The R&B singer that demanded her R-E-S-P-E-C-T was the mother of four and the first women to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
  • Josephine Cochrane- Go ahead and thank this amazing mom of two for her invention of the dishwasher as you load yours with way too many dishes and go do other more important and fun things.
  • Sojourner Truth- She escaped slavery in 1826 WITH her baby, she was also the first black woman to win a lawsuit against a white man when she took him to court in order to get custody of her son who had been illegally sold into slavery. In 2009, her work as an abolitionist was honored as she was the first black woman to get her own statue at the Capitol in Washington DC!!
  • Ruth Wakefield- If you like chocolate chip cookies you might want to show love to this mom who is responsible for the original Toll House Cookie recipe and therefore known for creating the circular mounds of goodness in the 1930s.
