The city of Oakland will be making about $30 million in spending cuts due to the COVID-19 budget deficit. The cuts include about $29 million in public safety cuts including $15 million will be taken from the Oakland Police Department and $5 million from the Oakland fire department.
Mayor Libby Schaaf told employees last week,
The City will not be able to fund essential services or respond to emergencies like an earthquake or a natural disaster. Even the City’s emergency reserve will be completely exhausted
