In an effort to cut obesity, the city of Berkeley will ban all grocery stores bigger than 2,500 square feet from putting unhealthy 'junk' food at the checkout lines. This means no more Snickers, Kit-Kats, or Hot Cheetos will be put out to tempt you at the register.
The stores that would have to follow this ordinance in Berkeley includes Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Berkeley Bowl. The ordinance will go into effect March 2021.
