This heatwave had a lot of people losing power over the weekend. On Friday, East Bay Municipal Utility District said the power outage caused 50,000 gallons of raw sewage to be released into the Oakland Estuary. Signs have been posted around the estuary warning people and their pets to stay out of the water.
EBMUD representative, Andrea Pook said
Between 5:10 a.m. to 6:50 p.m., power went out at the main wastewater treatment plant at the foot of the Bay Bridge. The outage caused major equipment failure at the wastewater plant.
The sewage was released near Alice Street and Embarcadero.
