San Francisco has created a pilot program to provide a team to respond to behavioral health emergencies. Each Street Crisis Response Team will consist of a paramedic, behavioral health doctor, and a peer from the Department of Public Health. This team would respond to calls that the police normally handles including suicide or self harm and handle people in intoxicated or disoriented state.
The program is part of the new Mental Health SF plan to help the cities homeless.
