Nik Dehejia from the Oakland Zoo joined Sana, DC, and GBiz via zoom to talk about their reopening this Sunday, July 26. The zoo has gone through some financial struggles due to the pandemic. They are currently trying to recover after having to lose over $1million a month that helps provide for food for all the animals, vets, and the 100 acre facility.
With the reopening, some new health guidelines will be enforced. This includes playgrounds and all indoor areas closed, markings on the ground, and everyone ages 3 and up visiting are required to wear masks.
Nik Dehejia told us the animals are really missing seeing people around the zoo. They will be holding a virtual fundraiser before the opening called LollapaZOOla this Saturday, July 25. The even will have different experiences that will be auctioned off including art created by elephants, private virtual and in-person experiences at Oakland Zoo.
