Refrigerators around Oakland are popping up in front lawns. The refrigerators usually have signs saying 'Comida Gratis' or 'Free Food'. The Town Fridge is an organization providing fresh produce and food to the Oakland community giving priority to people of color and homeless. The refrigerators have also helped provide masks and feminine products.
The group has inspired other cities in the Bay Area to do the same including San Francisco and Hayward. If you wish to help or get involved, click here.
