Sana G, DC, and G Biz talked to San Francisco Public Defender Manohar Raju on Zoom. They discussed how the whole system is at fault for the excessive force and shootings by the police in the United States. Raju pointed out that during COVID times, police are arresting people of color for petty reasons:
We need to not have people who are alleged to have committed low level offenses in jail at this point. A phone call from a store about a counterfeit $20, the officer should have approached him with a citation...that should have been the most that happened at that situation. There's no need for that type of force or an arrest at all. This is a time where there's a national movement to decarcerate.
Raju gave insight on the criminal justice system within the United States and what changes should be made for the better, including defunding the police. Raju also shared his feelings about racism in government jobs and even gave an example of his encounter in a San Francisco court room. Check out the interview below.
