Berkeley Unified School District approved the renaming of two schools in support of Black Lives Matter. Jefferson and Washington Elementary Schools names will be changed because both presidents owned slaves.
The school district will also:
- Launch a Black Joy Campaign – to celebrate the full experience of Black students, families, staff, and community members
- Support Black Lives Matter At School Week – February 1-5, 2021
- Display a Black Lives Matter Banner in the Board Chambers
