Ben & Jerry's are standing up and speaking out against white supremacy. They put out a statement on their website saying,
We have to speak out. We have to stand together with the victims of murder, marginalization, and repression because of their skin color, and with those who seek justice through protests across our country...The murder of George Floyd was the result of inhumane police brutality that is perpetuated by a culture of white supremacy.
They also talked about four steps to dismantle white supremacy.
- First, they asked Trump and elected officials to commit to the nation and for the President to disown white supremacists and national groups that support him.
- Second, they ask Congress to pass H.R. 40, which would create a group to study the effects of slavery and discrimination.
- Third, they are supporting a call made by Floyd's family to create a national task force that ends racial violence and increases police accountability.
- Fourth, they call on the Department of Justice to ignite its Civil Rights Division to defend the rights of black and brown people.
