Oakland parents, teachers, and community members are asking Oakland mayor and superintendent of Oakland Unified School District, to make sure public school students have access to internet. A lot of students do not have access to internet and are not getting the proper education during the shelter in place order. The President of Oakland Education Association said that between 25 to 50% of families have little to no access to online classwork.
A teacher at Oakland's Fremont High School said a fourth of the students do not have internet access, "It is unfair for students". Another issue families are running into is that there is only one computer in the house with several siblings.
