One player was hospitalized after a fight at a high school basketball game in San Francisco, and the team is now facing consequences. The fight occurred duirng a playoff matchup in San Francisco between Archbishop Riordan High School and Inderkum High School from Sacramento.
Riordan will no longer be hosting this weekend's event, and players involved in the fight will now be suspended from this weekends game. They were suspended for "unsportsmanlike behavior" by league officials.
The incident begins in the video when two Inderkum players fouled a Riordan player. After that, a Riordan player pushes one of his opponents in the back. Then players on both sides begin shoving, pushing, and punching each other. One Riordan player is knocked out on the court. The footage shows coaches and parents rushing onto the court to try to break up the altercation.
The game was prematurely ended by the referees with 15 seconds left on the game clock. As Riordan was ahead 61-52 when the game was called, the California Interscholastic Federation, or "CIF," eventually ruled only Riordan would move on to the semifinals. But, any players who took part in the altercation are unable to compete on Saturday. Riordan also gives up the benefit of playing at home since the CIF ruled they could no longer play on their home court.
