Cam Newton's omission from the NFL's homage to Black quarterbacks in professional leagues has drawn criticism.
Cam Newton was missing off of the league's Friday post honoring Black professional quarterbacks, which was soon brought to their attention.
The honor comes ahead of the Super Bowl game, which will feature two Black quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, for the first time.
Donovan Mcnabb, Michael Vick, Warren Moon, Doug Williams, Mahomes, and Hurts were among the players included in the NFL's homage, which also featured the words "Honor the past, work hard in the present, and leave a legacy for the future."
Following the tweet, Twitter users expressed their surprise at how Newton, who spent the majority of his 11-year career as a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, was left off.
One user wrote: “Cam Newton is an MVP and went 15-1 and y’all left him off. This is pathetic, low and ridiculous.”
Jalen Hurts caught wind of the disrespect and decided to give homage to Cam Newton for paving the way.
