A power failure on Friday caused BART trains to stop in the Transbay Tube, creating problems for 200 passengers on a stalled train and an unknown number of commuters trying to get to work, school, or begin their day in other ways.
According to a spokesperson, between Embarcadero and West Oakland in the San Francisco and East Bay directions, electricity went out in the tube at around 7 a.m.
BART predicted that the issue would persist throughout Friday night. BART authorities announced at a conference in the afternoon that delays of 30 minutes or more were possible. Those who planned to ride were urged to find other modes of transportation.
