On Thursday, a man beheaded a young woman in the street in front of onlookers.
According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department, the incident took place about 11:50 a.m. in the 300-400 block of Laurel Street and Magnolia Avenue.
Lieutenant Eamon Allen stated during a press conference that the crime took place on the street in front of the victim's home.
Two children, who did not witness the incident, were living inside the victim's home at the time. Lieutenant Allen stated that the victim had two children.
Witnesses called police to report the woman's head was cut off by a sword. " Children are there, scared to come...want their mom" at 12:14 p.m.
The 7-year-old and 1-year-old girls, as well as a dog and two cats who were also inside the house, were taken into custody by CPS.
The two allegedly had a long-term relationship, but according to law enforcement sources, the victim obtained a temporary restraining order against the suspect, Jose Solano Landaeta, a resident of Hayward, in April.
The search for the weapon is still ongoing. Neighbors described the gruesome scene saying "The head was underneath the car and she was laying in the back of the car- just severed, and they covered her up" neighbor Chapel Thorborne told ABC7.
"After he cut her head off, he came walking up, him and his two friends," Thorborne said. "And they walked right by me and they arrested him."
