The McKinney Fire, which is currently California's largest wildfire this year, has now claimed two lives after two bodies were discovered in a burned-out car by fire crews, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office.
The victims were discovered inside a car at around 10 a.m. on Sunday along Doggett Creek Road, which is off of Highway 96, west of the Klamath River, according to sheriff's authorities. The victims were not immediately able to be identified.
According to a Monday morning Cal Fire report, the fire erupted in a largely unpopulated area of Siskiyou County just two days ago and quickly expanded in size to around 55,500 acres. The cause is being investigated.
