After San Francisco's health authority confirmed on Friday that a resident who traveled to a known outbreak location is a presumptive case of Monkeypox, the Bay Area's first probable case. Health officials say they're ready for this incident and others like it if they should occur. The person is isolating himself and is regarded to be in good health.
Intimate contact with numerous persons can put a person at danger if monkeypox is spreading in the community, according to officials with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. They also noted risk to the general public is low.
Prolonged contact with an infected person and or body fluids is the known cause of spreading. Having close physical contact with several persons, including sex, can put a person at higher risk for get monkeypox. It can also be spread through an infected persons clothing or bedsheets.
The health department, on the other hand, stated that more has to be learned about how the virus spreads in order to ensure that public health guidance evolves appropriately.
Symptoms of monkeypox include: fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes chills and exhaustion.
Monkeypox has a 7-14 day incubation period, although it can last 5-21 days. The illness lasts two to four weeks on average.
