The arrest of a man in a stalking case in San Jose on Tuesday "no doubt prevented a mass casualty tragedy," according to authorities.

The San Jose Police Department released a statement detailing the arrest. SJPD got a report in April from a local construction company about a former employee who was "engaged in stalker behavior" toward many former coworkers.

Bryan Velasquez, the suspect, had been fired from the corporation in January 2022.

Velasquez had allegedly posted images of himself pointing guns on social media and sent threatening, profanity laced emails to colleagues with threats that included knowledge of their homes and everyday movements and activity, according to police.

Velasquez had multiple firearms registered in his name, according to records.

An arrest warrant for Velasquez was acquired by detectives working with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. He's facing criminal stalking charges.

Authorities also seized all of his firearms, including two AR-15 assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, tactical body armor, and supplies for making and assembling ghost guns.

He was arrested without incident.
