Officials say a child was bitten in the face during a coyote attack near the Huntington Beach Pier Thursday night, terrifying for the childs family.
Around 9:45 p.m., a woman and her two children were on the beach, dipping their toes in the ocean just north of the pier, when the coyote appeared and attacked the young girl. She is said to be between the ages of two and three.
She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, investigators from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Orange County Animal Services searched for the coyote that was seen running on the beach near the water.
Officials shot the coyote later in the evening. Despite being injured, the coyote managed to flee.
The coyote was found dead from its injuries on the beach Friday.
