Five years after a Bay Area mother claimed she was kidnapped while jogging and held captive for three weeks, authorities say the entire story was fake! Sherri Papini plead guilty to faking her abduction yesterday in court. During Monday's proceedings, the mother of two told the judge she felt “very sad”— and explained she has been getting treatment for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
In 2016, Sherri Papini was found wandering far away from home, three weeks after she was reported missing by her husband. The entire nation was searching for the mother who suddenly went missing. At the time, she claimed she had been violently abducted by gunpoint by two Latino women,and branded against her will. The criminal complaint alleges Papini was with an ex-boyfriend the whole time! The ex-boyfriend said Papini actually asked him to brand her to build up evidence of abduction.
Since then Papini's husband has remained by her side. She is expected to be sentenced in July.
