Governor Newsom announced a new subsidy program which includes 45 California colleges and universities to take part in his "Californians for All" College Corps.
The program will exchange student volunteer service to help the state's response to emergencies and disasters like COVID, the state will in return subsidize tuition for participating students.
Through this new state program, students with student loans could volunteer now to start paying them off! The program is meant to help those from underserved communities whom may not have the resources and rely on student loans to pay for college.
"If you step up to serve your community, we are willing to help you pay for college," announced Josh Fryday, the state's Chief Service Officer.
The new program called Californians For All College Corps.
With this program, if a student volunteered 450 hours over one year working on helping "tackle critical issues like climate change, educational disparities, COVID-19 recovery and other challenges facing the community," that student would earn $10,000 to pay off loans or other college expenses! 450 hours would translate to 11 weeks of a full time job.
