An 18 year-old mom is behind bars for attempted Murder and child abuse after putting her newborn baby in a trash bag and throwing it into a dumpster.
Alexis Avila, 18, was caught on surveillance cameras dumping a black plastic bag into a dumpster. The incident happened Friday afternoon in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Six hours later, 3 people arrived at the same dumpster searching through the trash. The trio discovered the baby, still alive, inside the garbage bag. The people then catered to the child and immediately called the police. When police arrived paramedics transported the newborn baby to the hospital for immediate care. Police asked a local business owner, Joe Imbriale, to review his surveillance footage from that day, which clearly showed Avila dumping the baby inside the dumpster.
“I was in shock just to see this,” Imbriale told KOB. “I can’t sleep at night just knowing that this baby was just tossed in a dumpster like that. I’m sorry but who does that? That is evil. I don’t have words for it.”
Avila had been charged with attempted murder and felony Child abuse.
