Heartbreaking news coming out of San Diego. The incident happened Saturday at La Jolla Zip Zoom Zipline on the La Jolla Indian Reservation in Southern California.
A Zipline worker, Joaquin Romero, 34 has tragically passed away after falling nearly 100 feet to his death. The tragic accident occurred while Romero was harnessing in a rider who ended up sliding out on the line before he could finish. He couldn’t stop her and grabbed onto her harness. As a result, they both were pulled out onto the line.
Romero, who was afraid that their combined weight would cause them both to fall to their deaths, committed the ultimate sacrifice and released himself from the harness.
Romero fell 100ft before hitting the ground. Romero suffered several blunt force injuries. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where days later he died from his injuries. The woman involved did not sustain any injuries.
La Jolla Zip Zoom Zipline, where the incident occurred, released a statement which said they were 'heartbroken' over the loss of their employee and are conducting an 'in-depth and comprehensive investigation, in coordination and cooperation with federal and state authorities.'
Sending our thoughts and prayers to the Romero family. Hoping they find peace in knowing he was a true hero.
