Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be taking over Laurence Fishburne’s role as “Morpheus” in the fourth edition of The Matrix.
Mateen officially confirmed the news by posting on his personal Instagram page. the po where he uploaded a photo of himself wearing the character’s iconic trench coat, and sunglasses, with the caption “MORPHEUS.” Fans and social media were shocked with the news as the trailer for “The Matrix Resurrections” dropped on the same day.
According to the New York Post, Mateen’s role will replace Laurence Fishburne as the actor confirmed earlier this year that he will not appear in the latest installment. “I am not in the next ‘Matrix’ movie and you’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that.” he said during an interview with Collider.
We do need answers why Fishburne wasn't asked to come back. There's always The Matrix 5!
The Matrix Resurrections will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
