The surge of attacks on elderly Bay Area Asian residents are continuing to increase as a man was assaulted and robbed while trying to deposit “large sums of money” at a bank in San Leandro Tuesday. The attack left the victim bloody but with minor injuries, happened at the Bank of America branch at 1925 Marina Boulevard around 1:20 p.m.
Witnesses to the crime and bank employees stated the robbers got away with $15,000 from the elderly man. How they knew he had this much money? In my opinion, they had to have been watching and stalking him waiting for an opportunity.
The elderly man was waiting in line to enter the bank when four males allegedly pushed him to the ground, stole his money and drove off. Video capturing the aftermath of the incident show the victim with a bloodied head, sitting on the ground pointing to another injury to his leg. Apparently the victims head hit the ground after being pushed.
Police described one of the suspects as African American, approximately 25 years old, standing 6 feet (183 centimeters), wearing dark clothing and armed with a handgun. The three other suspects are described as African Americans in their 20s.
This CANNOT become the norm. I urge all Bay Area residents to look out for each other. We are all struggling in this pandemic but attacking the most vulnerable people in our community requires we all do more to ensure this stops happening. Speak up, step up, help stop this BS!
