If there ever was a time to strap up, it is especially now! Apparently COVID has brought on another spread of a common STD except this strain of the STI does not respond to antibiotics.
Doctors are reporting that there is a rapid spread of “super gonorrhea,” which unfortunately does not respond to the normal antibiotic treatments. If someone catches this, it could be extremely dangerous and uncomfortable. According to a report from “The Sun” this has gotten so out of hand that the World Health Organization has it on its radar.
Apparently, during the pandemic doctors and staff were treating patients using the antibiotics azithromycin to prevent the cross-infection of Covid hospitalized individuals. A health professional from the World Health Organization told The Sun, “overuse of antibiotics in the community can fuel the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in gonorrhea.”
Because of that, Azithromycin which is normally used to treat gonorrhea , the new “super” strain of the STI does not respond to that medication. With that said, strap up and get tested people!
