This woman's story is beyond sad. An Oakland hairstylist is speaking out after being scammed out $273,000 after meeting a man online. She signed up with Match.com and met a man using the fake name David Perez, whom claimed he was a Marine deployed to Afghanistan. They communicated online and developed a relationship. After communicating for 5 weeks online, the scammer called her stating he needed help while stationed in Afghanistan. She wired $273,000 to a fake business overseas.
When she attempted to recover her money, the bank was unable to because she willingly transferred the money. It was only after the two were supposed to meet for lunch and he never showed, that she realized it was a scam.
