Oakland police released records in last year's fatal shooting of Joshua Pawlik, a homeless man with mental health issues. While police found the shooting to be justified, the independent court appointed police monitor does not agree.
Pawlik was passed out between two houses with a gun in his hand, last year in Oakland. Oakland Police Department and the police chief found the shooting justified. Yet, an independent monitor of OPD found it was not justified.
Now, the four officers involved in the shooting, Sgt. Francisco Negrete & Officers William Berger, Brandon Hraiz & Craig Tanaka, have been placed on administrative leave and potentially face firing, even though the police chief and district attorney stated the officers will not be charged with any crimes.
We will have to wait and see how this plays out.
