Less than 24 hours after it was announced Kevin Hart would be hosting the Academy Awards, Hart has stepped down.
Earlier today, homophobic tweets Kevin Hart posted in 2009 and 2010 re-emerged online sparking backlash. Kevin Hart responded by taking to Instagram to post a video about people who find a reason to be negative. He encouraged people to invest their energy into being positive and their lives will change.
He then posted another video on Instagram stating he got a phone call from the Academy Awards asking him to apologize for his tweets. He stated he refused to apologize for something he has already addressed and apologized for in the past. He has already moved on.
It looks like the Academy Awards were not playing about that apology because now Kevin Hart just tweeted he has decided to step down as the host so that he would not be a distraction. He did apologize for his resurfaced tweets as well.
