Bay Area legend Keak Da Sneak visits the KMEL studio for an exclusive interview a year after taking 8 bullets. Keak also brought along 'Fast Like A Nascar' rapper, Kafani for the latest episode of The Street Light Series with Shay Diddy and DJ Black Marc.
Both Keak and Kafani suffered bullet wounds that left them partially paralyzed. Keak was shot 8 times, including one bullet in his face. Kafani was shot 5 times. The two speak on dealing with their post-injury depression, regaining strength and movement through physical therapy and continuing their music career.
"The thing that's keeping me going is my music. I can honestly say music is my motivation," says Kafani.
Keak says that his first post-injury show in Sacramento helped him regain the confidence to continuing performing. He tells the story of how he was reluctant to hit the stage but that quickly changed because of the crowd's support.
"Everybody was fully with the situation- hugging me, touching me. [...] I needed to see that. I needed to hear that. I needed to know."
Keak and Kafani are both continuing to make music. Their joint album with Project Pat drops in September and is titled 'Lean and Cookies'.
Keak also revisits throwback memories with KMEL including performing at Summer Jam and being featured on MTV's 'My Super Sweet 16'.
