SiR Will Let His Hair Down At The 106.1 KMEL Holiday House Of Soul

SiR has music in his DNA and he's bringing his soulful genes to the 106.1 KMEL Holiday House of Soul.

Born Sir Darryl Farris, the singer, songwriter, and record producer comes from a family of musicians based in Inglewood, California. His mother, Jackie Gouche is a gospel artist and vocalist, his brothers Daniel and Davion Farris are hit songwriters, and his uncle Andrew Gouche is a Grammy award winning gospel bass player. So it makes sense that when SiR dropped his first solo project Seven Sundays in 2015, publications like NPR were quick to recognize the singer's talent. When you listen to his work, it's shocking to remember that he almost didn't pursue music as a career. Luckily, SiR realized that like much of his family, music was his calling and earned his degree in recording arts.

Thanks to his training in songwriting, production, and composition SiR went on to work with prolific artists like Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Stevie Wonder, and more. After Seven Sundays in 2015 and being featured on a few tracks by Jay Rock and Isaiah Rashad, SiR self released another EP titled HER, which featured dreamy and earnest tracks like "All In My Head." In January 2017, SiR was picked up by the well established indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment. His first release through the label came a month after the signing announcement and served as a follow up to the last EP called Her Too. A year later, SiR dropped his debut full length album November to positive reviews.

However, music critics noted that some of the singer's more provocative and arrogant lyrics didn't match the persona that he had projected on his previous work. The lyrics on his 2019 album, Chasing Summer, received similar criticisms. However, SiR has mentioned before that some of his music is fictional, a point that is emphasized by the computerized voice "K" that accompanied the listener throughout November. While R&B tracks are generally expected to feature autobiographical lyrics, SiR challenges this notion. Furthermore, his collaborations range from Kendrick Lamar on one of his most well-known tracks "Hair Down," to more underground artists like Kadhja Bonet. SiR takes traditional R&B and averts expectations in a way that's as smooth as his voice. That's why we can't wait to see him take the 106.1 KMEL Holiday House of Soul stage.
