In 1968 two San Jose State University students shocked the world & yesterday their legacy was celebrated! Tommie Smith & Dr. John Carlos were honored at SJSU this week as people across the world recognized the anniversary of the 1968 Olympics where both of the sprinters raised gloved fists during their award ceremony to draw international attention to the civil rights movement effecting minorities and economically disenfranchised people.
A number of activists took the stage at the San Jose State to express stories of these 2 men's courage to stand for freedom & equality over 50 years ago while expressing the importance of that same message within activism and sports today.
